This Friday, July 22nd, between 1-6 p.m., the Project Communautaire de Pierrefonds (PCP) is hosting a Women’s Day Celebration with the theme of “recognizing the struggles and triumphs that women have experienced” in their office located in the basement of Roxboro United Church at 116 Rue Cartier.

“The event is intended as a chance [for people] to meet other women and learn about local artists, musicians, etc… [In addition to the festivities], there will be information about local females, history about women, a bake sale for our programs supporting women and mothers,” stated Cristin Bleau, the coordinator of perinatal & Visiting Mothers Programs, “a photographer will also be present to capture the celebration from 2-4 pm”.
The celebration is free of charge (other than goods from the bake sale), open to all, and “Everyone is welcome to come to network, encourage other women, and learn about local females making a difference. People are welcome to stop by at any time and stay however long they want”, further stated Bleau.
The PCP is a non-profit community-based organization founded in 1995 with a mission to offer social, academic, linguistic, and emotional support and assistance to vulnerable individuals and families as means of establishing an environment of inclusivity and equality. Throughout the years, its programs have aided families in various aspects of life while spreading awareness to the rest of the community.
Proceeds from the Women’s Day Celebration’s bake sale will go towards preexisting campaigns such as the Visiting Mothers Program, which provides single mothers with guidance and respite, and the Perinatal Program for vulnerable and/or single mothers-to-be before and after their pregnancy.
Some of their other campaigns include the Preschool Program which prepares children across all backgrounds between the ages of 3-5 for the transition into kindergarten and the Motiv-Action Program which seek to improve academic results while addressing and improving social and linguistic skills for elementary school students.
