There is no question that the last year has brought uncertainty and change in the way we live, work, and do business. Some sectors were hit harder than others such as gyms, restaurants, travel, hospitality, and small businesses, while other sectors have exploded!
With more and more people contemplating their life plans, Vocational Training has seen a massive surge in interest and registration.
As an integral part of Lester B. Pearson’s reputed Continuing Education sector, Verdun Adult
Career Center has been helping adults further their education and become certified in a
multitude of trades since 2016. With a warm and welcoming family atmosphere, students of all ages and walks of life are drawn to the many programs at VACC. Small enough for staff to know all of their students, yet large enough to have multiple program offerings and start dates, students at VACC are provided meaningful learning experiences and support while pursuing their studies.
Of particular note, Plumbing and Heating, General Building Maintenance, and Residential and Commercial Drafting have seen a sharp intake in enrollment as trades in construction are in high demand. As well, their Business offerings; Computing Support, Professional Sales, Starting a Business, and Customer Service are incredibly relevant in the current market. In fact, many of it’s offerings have made it onto the top most relevant employment lists as per a recent “Randstad” article; https://www.randstad.ca/job-seeker/career-resources/working-in-
With many Montrealer’s still feeling the unemployment sting from the pandemic lay-offs, and
nothing but time on their hands while waiting for the world to open up again, the timing could not be better to explore new career opportunities. In recognition of this, the Government has flagged the value of Vocational Training and announced PARAF, a new funding program to help make Vocational Training more accessible and without financial burden. PARAF pays eligible applicants of all ages $500 a week to learn a trade that is in high demand. To take advantage of this initiative, an applicant must meet with a Service Canada agent before April 30, 2021 and the program of choice must start before September 25, 2021.
While the past year has been unprecedented for us all on a global scale, Verdun Adult and
Career Centre, located in beautiful Verdun which was recently ranked One of 2020’s Coolest
Neighbourhoods in the World by “Time Out Magazine”, has continuously offered all of it’s
courses on-site and online.
The amazing thing about technology is that even though we still can’t be together, we can still connect, learn and grow. What better time than now to invest in yourself… and your future.
