Municipal and federal government officials, including Steven Guilbeault, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, were on-site at Harwood Nature Park to announce the planting of 10,000 trees within Vaudreuil-Dorion. These trees will restore 9.6 hectares of urban space and are a part of the Canadian government's 2 Billion Trees (2BT) Program, which intends to provide financial support for the planting of 2 billion trees over ten years.
This endeavor requires a $485,000 investment from the federal government and a close to $500,000 contribution from the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The program aims to tackle the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. Trees will capture and store carbon from the atmosphere, improve air and water quality, help restore nature and biodiversity, and cool our urban centers. In 2021, the 2BT program funded 72 projects, contributing to planting almost 29 million trees.
