The City of Pointe-Claire is currently seeking a West Island artist to serve on its Public Art Committee. This advisory committee is responsible for issuing recommendations to support the enhancement and promotion of the works already displayed on its territory and developing new public art projects rooted in the community.

Harnessing the potential of public art as a community development tool, reinforcing citizens’ sense of belonging to their city, and embellishing the public space through artistic endeavors are the main objectives of this committee.

The person sought possesses the following qualities and skills:

  • Professional experience in visual arts. Note that the Selection Committee will prioritize applications from professional artists (as defined under the Status of the Artist Act), but also encourages visual arts students, emerging artists, and amateur artists to apply.

  • Interest in public art issues and the integration of the arts in architecture and the environment

  • Ability to work on a multidisciplinary committee and with people who do not necessarily work in an arts discipline (the Committee is made up of citizens, an employee from the Planning Department, a city councilor, and the manager of the Art Gallery).

  • Curiosity and open-mindedness

Meeting frequency: The Committee meets three to five times a year. Meetings last an average of two hours. Meetings will be held by videoconference until further notice.

Note: Participation on the Public Art Advisory Committee is not remunerated. However, it is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the art community, increase your understanding of public art issues in a municipal context and make a difference in the community.

Submit your application before Monday, March 21, 2022. Your application must include a resumé and a cover letter.
