Splash pads open early across the West Island

With the record breaking heat we have been experiencing these past few weeks many cities in the West Island have opened their splash pads to give families some much needed relief.

For those of you out of the loop a splash pad is a recreation area, often in a public park, for water play that has little or no standing water. This is said to eliminate the need for lifeguards or other supervision, as there is little risk of drowning. Cities and families alike are enjoying the benefits of a safe place to gather that usually provides optional shade, picnic table and sometimes changing rooms and washrooms. A splash pad can cost taxpayers close to a million dollars.

"We opened early this year to accommodate our citizens due to the humid warm weather," stated Kirkland City Councillor Karen Cliffe. "Splash pads are a great way to get cool and enjoy the community after two long years of COVID. The installations are safe and fun for all ages."

Kirkland, Dorval, Pointe-Claire are just a few of the cities that have pre-season hours for their splash pads. It is always best to check the hours on your city's website.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro

Parkinson Park (located on rue Millette, at the intersection of boulevard de Pierrefonds)
Cyril-W.-McDonald Park (located on rues Lamer and Harry-Worth)
Grier Park (located on rue des Cageux)
Du Boisé Park (located on 14ième rue, 9e Avenue and rue du Boisé, in Roxboro)
Cérès Park (located on avenue Cérès, at the intersection of avenue Edward-Higgins)
