Registration is now open for the Lakeshore Oncology Clinic's annual Dragon Boat Race fundraiser.

Did you know that?

• 2 out of 5 Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime, and at the Lakeshore General Hospital's Oncology clinic, they treat over 1,000 West Island patients annually.

• Did you know that patients can spend up to 8 hours a day, several days a week, receiving treatments? Thanks to donors, the Foundation recently upgraded the patient oncology chairs, which are more comfortable and medically functional as they can adapt easily in the event of an emergency.

• Funds raised at their annual Dragon Boat Race fundraiser will help provide state-of-the-art equipment and launch massage and music therapy programs to best treat and care for our ever-growing West Island community.

Teams of paddlers will take the waters of the Lachine Canal on Saturday, August 26th, and experience the adrenaline and thrill of a race! Dragon Boat racing requires no previous skill. It is easy to learn, promotes teamwork, health, and exercise, and is an activity where men and women compete side-by-side toward the same goal. Regardless of age or physical condition, once a paddler is in stroke, they are contributing to their team. Teams consist of 20 paddlers & 1 drummer.

At the event, all teams are encouraged to tailgate! Get into the spirit of the event – bring a tent, food, and drinks, and have a blast cheering on all the teams. There will also be a prize for the best-dressed team, so get creative – no costume is too silly for this event. Don't forget to decorate your tent space! Cousin Vinny of Virgin Radio will be onsite playing some great music, there will be food trucks (or they can pack a picnic), and it's a great way to spend a beautiful summer day by the Lachine Canal.

Each Dragon Boat participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of $250, but you don't have to stop there! You can set your goal higher or change it once it is met. To register and donate, or to learn more about the event, visit https://fondationlakeshore.ca/dragon-boat-race/.
