Raccoons break into a California bank!

When a California man made his usual stop at the bank, he had no idea he would be the witness to a furry crime. What he first thought to be stuffed animals on the counter as he peered through the window turned out to be two raccoons!

When the man realized there were in fact two live animals on the teller counter, he contacted his local Humane Society and SPCA. As it turns out, the raccoon bandits had clawed their way into the bank, most likely hunting the scent of a box of almond cookies that had been left behind in the staff room.

“There were muddy pawprints on a tree outside the bank, so we suspect the raccoons climbed the tree to the roof of the bank, and then somehow managed to crawl into the air ducts and fell through the ceiling tiles onto the floor of the bank,”
- Buffy Martin Tarbox, spokesperson for the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA

To make matters worse, the cuddly culprits did not make a quick exit.

“The bank managers let our rescue staff into the bank, and after about 10 minutes of chasing the raccoons around the bank, we were finally able to safely shoo them outside. They apparently didn’t want to leave the bank.”

Thankfully, the animals ultimately left, but not before leaving a collection of damages behind.

"There were several broken ceiling tiles, and the masked bandits knocked papers around and even a computer over," Tarbox stated. "Thankfully, the raccoons were not injured during their morning escapade, and to our knowledge, they didn't abscond with any money."
