Pedalling for prostates: a family's journey to recovery

In January 2022 the Keith family found out some devastating news that the helper in the family had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Gordie was lucky to be diagnosed early and is expected to make a full recovery thanks to his team of doctors and the amazing advances in science and medical technology.

The thing keeping Gordie down the most is that for the next 6-8 weeks he will not be able to bike on his peloton; his beloved stationary bike. That's when his family came up with the idea to hold a campaign where community members could bike on Gordie's behalf all the while raising money for prostate cancer research.

The goal for participants is to ride 5000 minutes as a group and raise $5000. As of April 19th, 2022 the initiative has 20 participants determined to ride. So far, the team is mostly made up of Gordie's friends and family, but all are able to participate.

"As of last week we had raised $4200 in the first two weeks, so it looks like we’re going to have to up our game and shoot for a higher goal, as we’re just getting started over here!"
-Lexie Keith

Gordie's daughter Lexie says that it is amazing to see the number of people that have come together to support him whether that is through biking, donations, or simply just checking in on his journey.

"We’re so very lucky and I can only hope to raise some money to help all of those who come after him fighting this disease."
