Men will "walk the walk" to support the West Island Women's Shelter

For the 7th year, Royal LePage Village NDG hosts the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes," an annual event where the men of Royal LePage Village, the community, and 3 women's shelters (Auberge Transition, L'Hébergement La Passerelle, and the West Island Women's

Shelter) take a 1-mile hike along Monkland Avenue to make a difference!

On September 18th, you will see men proudly walking in 4-inch pumps to highlight the needs of women and children living with domestic violence and abuse. This fundraising event allows the community to show their compassion and support by truly walking the walk.

Witness the walk and stay for the community picnic – where you can cool your heels and socialize! The activities begin at 9:30 on September 18th at Parc Paul Doyon and will end at the same location.

Important to know:

  • 100% of donations to the Foundation go directly to the shelters.

  • Since 1998 the Shelter Foundation has raised more than 30 million dollars.

  • On any given day in Canada, 3000 women (and their 2500 children) are living in an emergency shelter to escape family violence*

  • 360,000 children are exposed to domestic violence each year.

  • In February, tax receipts for donations over $20 will be sent out from the Royal Lepage Shelter Foundation.

In 2021 over 100 walkers proudly accompanied the 50 men wearing these not-too-comfortable heels and raised over $43,000. This year's participation is expected to double with a fundraising goal of $50,000.

"The Shelter Foundation is a major reason I am proud to work with Royal LePage, and the work done to assist women and children in extremely difficult circumstances is vitally important. Our annual Walk a Mile event is taking place on Monkland on September 18th, 2022, and we hope we can count on support from all across Montreal and beyond. Please join me in doing our part to help," stated Paul Johnson, the Owner of Royal LePage Village.

As part of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation – 100% of all donations will be shared with Auberge Transition, the West Island Women's Shelter, and l'Hébergement La Passerelle. These organizations help transition women from intolerable domestic situations to lead healthier, safer lives for women and children.

"Making a difference, showing compassion, and educating the community has been the reward of our 25-year relationship with Royal LePage Shelter Foundation," said Irene Jannson, the Director of Auberge Transition.
