Fire on Angora in DDO forces residents to evacuate Saturday afternoon

A residential building was engulfed in flames on Saturday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of one person treated for smoke inhalation in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

"The call came in around 3:30 p.m. regarding a fire that broke out on Angora Street, near the intersection of Hyman Street," said Matthew Griffith, head of the prevention section for the Montreal Fire Safety Service ( SIM).

The blaze started on the 1st-floor apartment before spreading to the rest of the building, which includes approximately twenty apartments.

Nearly 90 firefighters were on the scene trying to bring the flames under control.

All residents were evacuated as a precaution and one of them was taken to a hospital by Urgences-santé after inhaling smoke.

The cause of the fire was still unknown at the time of publication.
