TOKYO -- Canada's Rylan Wiens finished with a bronze medal in the men's 10-metre platform Tuesday at a FINA Diving World Cup event.

Wiens, from Saskatoon, was 10th after the semifinals, but he posted a cumulative score of 488.55 in the final to secure a spot on the podium.

"That was probably the best event of my life," Wiens said. "I was able to put in six dives and come out with a bronze medal at the World Cup which is pretty amazing. I was super happy with everything I did and hard work paid off."

Thomas Daley of Britain won gold while Mexico's Randal Willars Valdez took silver.

Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Pointe-Claire, Que., was third after the semifinals but slipped to fifth after scoring 462.10 in the final.

With both Wiens and Zsombor-Murray qualifying for the 10-metre final, Canada unlocked a second Olympic spot in the event.

On the women's side, Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., finished fifth in the three-metre springboard final with a cumulative score of 316.05.

In the women's 10-metre platform, Calgary's Caeli McKay scored 287.80 and finished 12th to earn a berth in the semifinals.

Laval's Meaghan Benfeito withdrew from the event having already secured an Olympic berth in the discipline.

Benfeito and McKay secured their Olympic spot in the women's 10-metre synchro event with their gold-medal win on Sunday.
