A million households without electricity - Hydro hopes to restore 1/3 by 4 pm today


One of the worst ice storms since the catastrophic one of 1998 caused heavy damage across southwestern Quebec on Wednesday, leaving between 15 and 30 mm of ice in its wake and more than a million households without electricity, more than one in five homes.


More than a million people are still without power. Hydro teams are deployed throughout the field to keep you informed throughout the day.


E-charging stations located at West Island's Fairview Mall were not functioning as of 8 am this morning.



Hydro-Québec expects to restore power to a third of its customers within 24 hours. Some 1,100 workers are busy repairing the damage on the ground which is equivalent to 500 teams.


“Now is not the time to take risks and have propane appliances in the house,” warns Public Security Minister François Bonnardel.


François Legault will take stock at the start of the afternoon in Montreal.
