A Canadian food service company is facing a staffing shortage and is reaching out to the community in the hopes to spread awareness and encourage people to apply for jobs.

“Compass Group Canada is the country’s leading foodservice and support services provider with over 25,000 associates working in more than 2,200 locations throughout the country. The company specializes in providing food services and support services across the core sectors including leading sports and leisure venues, executive dining rooms and cafes, schools, universities, seniors’ residences, and hospitals as well as remote camps and offshore oil-rigs.” (SOURCE)

Like many industries, the food services have been gravely impacted by the ongoing wrath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unlike restaurants, which can opt to close their doors on quiet days due to low traffic and shortage of staff, Compass Group is responsible for serving food in essential facilities such as schools, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. There is no off-season at the hospital.

“Our Chartwells team is excited to be back at school, welcoming students and faculty this fall after a challenging COVID-19 year. Our associates are passionate about ensuring they can provide a safe space for students to eat while at school – and we welcome those who would like to join our team to reach out through our career site."

- Stéphane Beauchemin - Vice-président exécutif / Executive Vice President at Compass Group Canada

"With Compass Group Canada, there are endless career growth opportunities, flexible schedules, an industry-leading health and safety team, and culture, as well as a Great Place to Work certified company culture.”

But depending on your personal needs, Compass Group may in fact be the perfect solution. Unlike the traditional restaurant and bar setting, working for Compass Group within the school sector ensures that you have your evenings and weekends off.

The alarming reality is that for many students, the time they spend at school is the only time they will receive a full meal in their day. Since the onset of the pandemic, food insecurity has risen to all-time highs across the province, and families across the West Island are reliant on food assistance and food programs now more than ever.

School cafeterias across the West Island are traditionally adorned with a variety of counters and options for students to choose from. Prior to COVID, students had a wide selection of soups, salads, fruit cups, parfaits, baked goods, and hot meals. Adjusting to the ongoing staff shortage has meant the forced shut-down of many counters within school cafeterias and limited options for students.

Currently, District Managers have taken to washing dishes and providing assistance on the frontlines of these institutions to ensure that students, patients, and our elderly citizens are able to be fed.

If you or someone you know has a passion for food, people, and change, a position within the school sector at Compass Group might be the perfect opportunity. Flexible hours and summers off mean more time spent at home with family and loved ones. Work in an environment that prioritizes equity, sustainability, and leadership within the food industry.

“At Compass, we turn ordinary acts of service into extraordinary moments that make a difference.” (SOURCE)
